Six squared and boxed text styles

Outlined Square
The cleanest dedicated square-letter style. Lowercase input becomes uppercase because the Unicode alphabet contains squared capitals.
Filled Square
A higher-contrast negative-squared alphabet. It can look like solid tiles or emoji-style badges depending on the platform.
Combining Box
Keeps the original character and applies a combining enclosing square. It supports more than A–Z but depends heavily on font rendering.
Bracket Boxes
Uses ordinary characters such as [A][B][C], making it highly portable even though it is not true enclosed Unicode.
White Tiles

Squared alphabet A–Z and character coverage
Unicode’s dedicated squared Latin alphabet is intentionally compact: it provides capital letters, not a full family of lowercase letters, digits and punctuation.
Why filled square letters can look like emoji
Several negative squared characters are also used in emoji systems. A platform may therefore render some filled-square code points as colored or rounded emoji-style badges instead of monochrome text glyphs.
That does not necessarily mean the copied text changed. The underlying Unicode code point can remain the same while the font or rendering engine chooses a different visual presentation. If a consistent monochrome look is essential, test the exact output in the destination before publishing.

Is squared text a real font?
The outlined and filled square results are Unicode enclosed characters, not an installed font. Other modes on this page use combining marks or ordinary square symbols as decorative patterns.
Can I copy and paste squared letters?
Yes. Copy an output or an individual A–Z character from the picker, then paste it into the destination and confirm that the app accepts and displays it.
Why does lowercase text become uppercase?
The dedicated Unicode squared Latin sets contain capital letters A through Z. They do not provide a complete matching lowercase square alphabet, so lowercase input is promoted to uppercase.
Why do numbers stay normal?
The dedicated squared Latin alphabet is for letters. There is no parallel 0–9 set that matches these exact square glyphs, so digits remain ordinary in the true squared modes.
What is the difference between outlined and filled square text?
Outlined squared characters use one enclosed Latin block range, while filled or negative squared characters use a separate range whose glyphs are designed as light letters on dark square backgrounds.
Why can filled square letters look like emoji?
Some negative squared characters participate in emoji presentation on modern platforms. The visual rendering can therefore become colorful or rounded even when the underlying Unicode character is unchanged.
What is Combining Box text?
It keeps a normal base character and adds U+20DE COMBINING ENCLOSING SQUARE after it. Because the box is a combining mark, its size and alignment depend heavily on the font and rendering engine.
Are bracket boxes true Unicode square letters?
No. A result such as [A][B][C] uses normal brackets and ordinary letters. It is included because it is highly portable and still satisfies the visual “boxed text” use case.
Can I use squared text on Instagram, Discord or TikTok?
Many modern profile, caption and chat fields display these characters, but username validation and font support vary. Test the exact field before relying on the style.
Can I convert squared Unicode back to normal letters?

Should I use squared Unicode for buttons on my own website?
