Superscript numbers vs subscript numbers

Superscript digits sit visually above the baseline; subscript digits sit below it. Unicode provides a complete 0–9 set for both, plus several matching mathematical signs and parentheses.

Superscript numbers

Best for simple powers, raised references, ordinal-style details and dates such as ²⁰²⁶. Common signs include ⁺ ⁻ ⁼ ⁽ ⁾.

Decimals and negative numbers

The digit conversion works inside larger strings. In superscript and subscript styles, supported plus, minus, equals and parentheses can be raised or lowered too. Decimal points normally remain ordinary punctuation because Unicode does not provide a matching superscript or subscript decimal point.
